My mother in Law is an amazing cook. For her cooking isn’t following any measurements or any directions, but it is more of her experience, her expertise, memories and hand down recipes from generation to another. I am truly amazed by her simple and delectable recipes which she manages to make using a handful and simple ingredients. One of my favorite is the Bhakari ladoo (Pearl Millet Sweet).

For her cooking isn't following any measurements or any directions, but it is more of her experience, her expertise, memories and hand down recipes from generation to another. I am truly amazed by her simple and delectable recipes which she manages to make using a handful and simple ingredients. One of my favorite is the Bhakari ladoo (Pearl Millet Sweet).

Bhakari ladoo or Malida (my mom in law calls it malida) requires just 3 ingredients. YES you read it right. Just 3. She used to make it for my husband when he was growing up. When I had it for the first time I was amazed about how simple & quick this recipe is. I have a sweet tooth and I crave for something sweet after lunch or dinner and this is my sweet tooth fixation.

LETS TAKE ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS:

  1. Pearl millet Bhakari :I have used leftover bhakaris (rotis) for this recipes.. These are the new staple in our house. Pearl millet (gluten free) is high in fibre, rich in magnesium and potassium and helps to reduce blood pressure.
  2. Jaggery: Jaggery has the ability to cleanse your body, helps in digestion and also contains minerals that can be easily absorbed by the body to provide energy and vital nutrition.
  3. Ghee : I simply can’t stress the importance of ghee. I have just used around 2 tablespoon of ghee which helps in binding of the ladoo along with making it moist and gives it a distinct taste.

You can find the recipe of pearl millet bhakari here. Simple and a full proof recipe.

Easy and quick pearl millet sweet.

Ingredients

  • 7-8 leftover pearl millet bhakaris

  • 1/2 cup jaggery ( you can reduce the amount of sweetness as per as your liking)

  • 2 tablespoons of Ghee (or as required)

Directions

  • Break or tear your leftover Bhakari’s in a bowl. Tear them into tiny pieces. You can also use a mixer grinder for this. But remember to keep the mixture a bit coarse.
  • Add in the jaggery and mash it nicely in the bhakari mixture. The mixture will become sticky with the addition of jaggery and it can form a ball.
  • Add in the ghee and form balls from the mixture and ta da the ladoos are ready.

Notes

  • This recipe is very forgiving and you can always add or reduce the quantities of jaggery and ghee.
  • You can add nuts if you want to. I like to keep it simple.

These simple and palatable snack is ready in minutes and the best part it is made from leftover rotis/ bhakris.
